GL.iNet Routers
There are so many different Internet Service Providers and routers out there that it is impossible to cover every possible scenario, but these tools are here to help with some of the most common issues. These tools are offered without warranty or guarantee.
DDNS IP Address: Unknown
Your IP Address: Unknown
If you are using Ethernet cables, please make sure the cable is going into the WAN port of the GLiNet router, not the LAN ports. We use WAN ports to connect routers to a larger network (Wide Area Network) and LAN ports connect our devices such as laptops (Local Area Network).
You cannot use the built in DDNS test while the GLiNet router is behind another router. Please use the Verify Dynamic DNS test at the top of this page.
While home, we expect the DDNS test to return the same IP Address as your home. The test works by asking the DDNS for the IP Address that is stored then it compares it against the IP Address you are currently using. You can also use this test while connected to the VPN to verify your IP Address matches.
Also be sure to check that the configartion file you loaded into your Client Travel Router is using the DDNS addrress in the Endpoint field rather than an IP Address such as 123.456.7.89
Sometimes your ISP Router and the Travel Router will try to use the same address -- this is known as a collision. Just like a car collision it can cause traffic to come to a hault.
Login to the Server Travel Router and go to the Internet page. Under your connection type (Such as Ethernet) verify that your IP Address is NOT 10.0.0.1X or 192.168.8.X If it is, you have a conflict.
To resolve a conflict, turn off the WireGuard(R) VPN Server and change the settings from 10.0.0.1/24 to 10.1.0.1/24 turn the server back on then generate a new profile for your Client Router (Since the IP Address will change). See more details here. For the older routers still on Version 3 such as the Opal, do not include the /24.
Login to the Server Travel Router and go to the Internet page. Under your connection type (Such as Ethernet) verify that your IP Address is the same as the one you Port Forwarded to on your ISP Router. This video might help visually.
On Cable Internet, you may need to change your Port Forwarding from UDP/TCP to UDP Only.
Please make sure the Client Travel Router is connected to a second Internet connection before trying to connect the VPN. You cannot connect while already on the same Internet connection!
Hotels, Coffee Shops, etc use something called a Captive Portal to restrict access to the Internet before agreeing to the terms. Check out this video for two ways to login.
Please send me an email at [email protected] with the problem you are having, including the Error Log from the View Log link on the VPN Client page.
